Top Austrian companies ready to invest in SL

The Austrian Chamber of Commerce states that several leading companies in Austria are ready to make investments in Sri Lanka.

The Chamber of Commerce revealed this at a business meeting headed by President Maithripala Sirisena held last week in Vienna with participation of the members of the business communities of Austria and Sri Lanka.

The meeting aimed at increasing the bilateral relations of the two countries in the fields of trade, tourism and education. A number of Austrian businessmen expressed their willingness to make investments in Sri Lanka at this meeting.

The representatives of a large number of leading companies who participated in this meeting explained their projects which are currently carried out in Sri Lanka. They also presented the plans of the new projects to be commenced in Sri Lanka in the future.

At present the trade value between the Sri Lanka and Austria is around euros 95 million and it was further revealed that now this situation is becoming more favorable for the Sri Lankan side.

Addressing the gathering the President said Sri Lanka hopes to move forward in trade with the friendly nation of Austria.

He said that he is also expected to increase the trade turnover between the two countries in the coming years and to expand the trade ties with Austria as Ceylon tea and Ayurvedic products have become a significant attraction for Austrian tourists.

Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Ravi Karunanayake, Daya Gamage, the Chairman of the Board of Investments, Upul Jayasuriya, and others participated in this event.
