Translation unit set up for Court of Appeal

Under the aegis of the UNDP Access to Justice Project, a special Translators’ Unit has been set up at the Court of Appeal to expedite translations required from Tamil to English especially to address the issue of pre-trial detainees. The UNDP project is administered by the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration. The unit was officially declared opened by Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Mohan Peiris. Minister of Justice Rauff Hakeem, President, Court of Appeal Justice S. Sriskandarajah and a number of other Judges of the Court of Appeal, UNDP Resident Representative Razina Bigrami, UNDP Project Director and the Secretary, Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration Malkanthi Wickremasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Justice Kamalini de Silva and other officials were present at the occasion. Former Additional Solicitor General A. Gnanadasan is the Project Director of this Unit
