Troops repair more than 750 damaged roofs at Kosgama

Reconstruction work in Salawa, Kosgama has seen all partly damaged houses being renovated and handed over to the owners while work on houses with major damages is continuing. 

As of Thursday troops have completed repair work on a total of 766 damaged roofs while work on another 42 are currently underway.

The Sunday inferno at the Army ammunition dump in Salawa last month (05th June 2016) had caused damages to houses and commercial buildings around the camp. Authorities took immediate steps to repair these buildings soon after the incident and have so far completed a large part of the reconstruction work.

In addition to reconstruction work Army also took steps to provide uniforms to school children affected in the incident. Under the project 869 children have been provided with two sets of uniforms each stitched at the Army’s Ranaviru Apparel. Exercise books and schoolings needs have also been provided to children in schools in the area.

By now troops have completed cleared the affected area of debris and remnants of ammunition which was scattered around a large area.

The Sri Lanka Navy troops together with officials of the Irrigation Department had cleaned 1581 wells enabling the use of those by the public.
