Two more bodies found at landslide rubble

The search and rescue workers digging through the rubble of the Haldummulla landslide site yesterday found two more bodies, bringing the total number of bodies recovered so far to 11. The Security Commander of the Central Province Major General Mano Perera said two bodies had been found when the excavations at the site of the landslide in Meeriyabedda, Koslanda in Haldummulla began for the tenth day. The two bodies have been identified as those of a child and a 54-year-old woman, the officer told the Lankapuvath National News Agency. Major General Perera said the excavations are in progress and public assistance will be obtained to carry out further search operations. He added that the Sri Lanka Army is evaluating 14 eyewitness accounts in search and recovery operations. Meanwhile, the police, according to the instructions given to the IGP by the President, have prepared a report with the statements of 17 people. Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said the report would be released soon.
