Two petitions were filed before the Mount Lavinia and Nugegoda District Courts to restrain the UNP Convention scheduled to be held on 1 December.
Mount Lavinia District Judge Pradeep Masinghe fixed for today (30) to consider the application. Meanwhile, the other petition filed before the Nugegoda District Court was dismissed primarily by District Judge Namal Bandara Ballale.
The petitioners had cited 85 members of the UNP working Committee including its Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as defendants for the action.
The petitioners complained that the Working Committee of the UNP had prearranged to hold the General Convention of the Party on 1 December at the Party Headquarters in Siri Kotha with the presence of a handful of selected members of the party.
The petitioner claimed that as a member of the party he too has a right to attend the convention but it was prevented by the UNP leadership, thus violating the Constitution of the party.
