The Police have arrested two Inspectors of Police on suspicion of abducting a husband and a wife residing in Agalawatta to obtain a ransom.
The abducted couple lodged a complaint that the two police officers with three other persons abducted them on 18 September and demanded a ransom of Rs.2 million following which the Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon instructed the Deputy Inspector General of Western Province Ashoka Wijethilaka to investigate the incident and report to him.
The arrest was made yesterday as the investigation was underway.
Police spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Maxi Procter said that one of the police officers is suspected of having connections with the underworld. (www.colombopage.com)
