Two Army soldiers suspected of killing a doctor in the South have surrendered to the authorities.

The two soldiers have allegedly taken a contract from an Army captain to kill Dr. Priyanka Prasad Jayasinghe of the Borakanda government hospital in the Karandeniya of Galle district.

The 41-year-old doctor was gunned down by two men on a motorcycle as he was leaving his clinic at the end of the day on September 29.  The police investigations have revealed that a rival doctor, who was losing his patients to Dr. Jayasinghe, has asked a friend, the Army captain to kill the doctor.

The Army captain has reportedly hired the two soldiers to carry out the hit.

The police have previously arrested the rival doctor and the Army captain.

The two soldiers who were siblings remained at large until their surrender.  Following the arrest of the two suspects, the residents in the area on November 1 set fire to the rival doctor’s medical practice and his house.

The elite Police Special Task Force (STF) was summoned to bring the situation under control while the police imposed a curfew in the Karandeniya Police area.
