UK Parliamentary team meets President

A 10-member British parliamentary delegation visiting Sri Lanka on Thursday met President Mahinda Rajapakse at the President’s House in Kandy.



The delegation comprising eight MPs of Conservative party and one Member of the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland held discussions with the President on promoting business and investment opportunities between the two countries.

The President informed the British Parliamentarian on the current opportunities existing in the country for investment and new opportunities that would arise with the Government’s development program in the conflict-affected East and the North.

The President also briefed them on the measures taken to implement the recommendations on the LLRC.

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the UK delegation will visit Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts to get a firsthand look at the development program implemented by the government in those areas. The UK legislators will also visit the Hambantota harbour and the Mattala international airport that is under construction.
