Visiting United Nations Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Oscar Fernandez- Taranco met Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the ministry office on Friday 20 June.
Fernandez-Taranco arrived to Sri Lanka on a four-day visit starting from 19th, Thursday. During his visit he is scheduled to meet key interlocutors including senior government officials, representatives of political parties and civil society groups. He assumed the position of Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs on 1 July 2009.
UN Resident Coordinator of Sri Lanka Subinay Nandy, Director for South-east Asia and the Pacific in the Department of Political Affairs of the UN Mari Yamashita and Presidential Task Force for Re-settlement, Development and Security in the Northern Province, S.B. Divaratne were among those who participated in the discussion.
