UN Under-Secretary General calls on Foreign Minister

IN-3A special meeting between the United Nation’s Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake was held on Friday.

Addressing the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Under-Secretary General Feltman lauded the commitment made by the Unity Government towards its program where the rights of all communities were protected in a unitary state. He further said that positive changes have taken place in the national, religious and social spectrums of the country and such changes were the cornerstone of building harmony between different communities.

Feltman extended his sincere thanks to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who took action to ensure the unitary status and sovereignty of the country. Responding to Feltman, Karunanayake said he appreciated the United Nations keeping its trust in the program that was introduced by the Unity Government to strengthen reconciliation between all the communities of Sri Lanka within a unitary state.

UN Country Representative in Sri Lanka Una McCauley, Foreign Ministry Secretary Esala Weerakoon and several others were present.
