UNA observes 69th United Nations Day

Text and pic by Ruzaik Farook The United Nations Association (UNA) with the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs and the United Nations in Sri Lanka organised national observance of the 69th United Nations Day at the Bishops College Auditorium recently. It was held under the patronage of Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris as a Chief Guest and Coordinator of the United Nations Subinay Nandi as Guest of Honour.  Awards and certificates were presented to the winners of the best study circle, general knowledge, speech contests and art competition among UNA study circle in schools in Sri Lanka. Certificates and awards were also presented to the best teachers in charge of UNA Study Circles. The Best Speaker award received by Ravindu Rasanjana of Sri Chandrasekara Maha Vidyalaya, Panadura and   Assistant Secretary General UNA M.M.M. Rushanudeen received token of appreciation for volunteer service from President of the UNA Dr. Lakshman Marasinghe. Cultural items were presented by Ladies College, OKI International School and Asian International School students. European Union Ambassador David Daly, High Commissioner of Canada Shelley Whiting, Brigadier General G.V. Elapata, MP A.H.M. Azwer, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles Dr. Hector Weerasinghe and members of the UNA were present at this ceremony.
