The United National Party (UNP) has accused the governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) of resorting to violence and disrupting the party’s election campaign work.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has said incidents of violence have been reported from Colombo and Kolonnawa areas.

Attanayake has added that while unleashing violence, the government was also misusing public property in campaign work.

Meanwhile, the UNP has in writing requested the Elections Commissioner and the Senior DIG in-charge of elections to provide security to the Kolonnawa area to stop the incidents of violence taking place in the area.

The election offices of UNP candidate Anura Liyanage in Wijaya Road in Sedawatte and of former Chairman of Kolonnawa Urban Council Chithra Dias had been attacked and destroyed.       (Colombo Page)
