aUnited National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed a committee to analyse the party’s performance at the local government elections in July and on 8 October and prepare a report.
Wickremesinghe has assigned the committee to analyse areas where the party has gained in comparison to previous elections and also lost as well. The committee is expected to study and explain the reasons for the party’s performance at the last two stages of the local government elections.
Wickremesinghe has asked the committee to recommend in the final report the steps that need to be taken to increase the party’s voter bank. Political observers in Sri Lanka, however, are of the opinion that the leadership crisis in the party is the reason for the UNP’s poor performance at elections.
