UNP appoints interim working committee

Main opposition United National Party (UNP) appointed its new working committee yesterday according to the reforms made to the party constitution recently.

The working committee is appointed for an interim period until the new office bearers are appointed according to the party constitution.  The new working committee is effective from 1 January and it is mandated to function until 120 days past the party convention is held.  The reforms to the party constitution were approved during the UNP convention held on 12 December.  The interim working comavious working committee members sans three MPs who have expressed support to the government.  The three MPs, Abdul Cader, Lakshman Senevirathne, and Earl Gunasekara crossed over to the government side in September and voted in favour of the government’s constitutional amendments in the parliament.
