United National Party (UNP) says it supports the call by the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) for a civil Governor for the Northern Province.
UNP General Secretary, parliamentarian Tissa Attanayake said the Governor of the Northern Province should not be a former military person, but a civilian.
He explained that the Northern Provincial Council and the Governor of the Province would be able to work better if the Governor is a civilian.
The UNP, according to Attanayake would support the TNA in its request for a civil Governor.
He added that the TNA was also fair in its request to recruit more Tamil speaking police officers to police stations in the north.
