UNP cancels meeting organised by Sajith

The headquarters of the United National Party (UNP) has informed the electoral organisers of the Matale district to cancel a meeting of the UNP local government representatives to be held in the party district office Today.

The meeting was summoned by the UNP Deputy Leader and dissident group head Sajith Premadasa.

However, UNP sources say the meeting has been organised without proper authorisation.

UNP headquarters informed the local government representatives not to participate in the meeting and the electoral organisers later cancelled the meeting.

Sajith Premadasa is to hold a religious political programme in Matale on the same day. Party headquarters sources say that the leadership is unable to take action against the dissident chief since the meeting was not organised by him.
