UNP Leadership Council to get tough with errant party members

The Leadership Council of United National Party (UNP) has decided to take strict action against party members who work against the process approved by the party’s Working Committee. The Leadership Council has unanimously decided on this issue when it met at the party headquarters under the patronage of Council Chairman, Karu Jayasuriya. The UNP issued a statement saying that reports have already been submitted to the Leadership Council on the party members operating in contradiction of Working Committee decisions and that action will be taken against them shortly. Meanwhile, the UNP appointed a Membership Promotions Committee to enhance the party’s membership around the island. The Leadership Council has also decided to make public the UNP election manifesto for the Western and Southern Provincial Council elections on 12 March at 11:30 a.m. at the party headquarters.
