UNP meets IMF resident representative

A group of Sri Lanka’s main opposition United National Party (UNP) parliamentarians have met with the resident representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Sri Lanka, Koshy Mathai to discuss matters about the IMF and its role in Sri Lanka.

UNP MPs Ravi Karunanayaka, Lakshman Kiriella, Jayalath Jayawardena, Harsha de Silva, and Ruwan Wijewardena had formed the UNP delegation that met with the IMF representative.

UNP sources told ColomboPage that during the meeting, the UNP members had questioned the IMF about the strict conditions imposed on Sri Lanka when there are doubts being cast on the efficiencies of the Fund’s management given the criticism leveled against the conduct of the most senior official at IMF.

The UNP members had also asked the IMF to permit Sri Lanka to make its own decisions.

When asked for the IMF’s response to the concerns raised by the UNP delegation, the UNP member said the Fund had requested not to divulge details of the discussion.  (Colombo Page)
