UNP MP Thewarapperuma arrested

United National Party MP Palitha Thewarapperuma was arrested yesterday after he surrendered to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) in connection with the assault incident at Agalawatta on Sunday morning. Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said three others were arrested in connection with the assault, on Sunday, of SLFP Pradeshiya Sabha member Arumugam Pushpakumara in Agalawatte. Yesterday President Maithripala Sirisena instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), N. K. Ilangakoon to appoint a team of police officers to investigate the incident involving Kalutara District UNP Parliamentarian Thewarapperuma which took place at Matugama in the Agalawatta area on Sunday (18). Thewarapperuma and his supporters had allegedly assaulted the Pradeshiya Sabha member after he reportedly removed green flags and put up blue flags in Agalawatte town.
