Chief Opposition Whip in Parliament John Amaratunga yesterday urged the Government to not allow the proposed visit of Indian Prime Minister who accepted the invitation of C. Vigneswaran.
“How can he come here having turned down the invitation to participate in the CHOGM? We were against the high cost of CHOGM but we are supporting the Government in this questionable visit,” Amaratunga said in Parliament.
Nevertheless, he noted that unfortunately CHOGM 2013 was the least participated at Head of Government level and the most unsuccessful ever.
“The UNP was planning to take part in it, but two days before the summit our leader’s vehicle was attacked, violating his human rights. If Sri Lanka is not willing to conduct an unbiased inquiry on the human rights violations, David Cameron is willing to establish such. You have extended visas to Channel 4 and then again obstructed their travels inside the country in addition to departing of foreign diplomats,” UNP MP said.
