UNP to cancel electoral organiser posts of party rebels

The United National Party (UNP) has decided to cancel the electoral organiser posts of four rebel UNP Parliamentarians for being critical of the party leadership.

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken the decision to terminate the organiser posts of Dayasiri Jayasekara for Panduwas Nuwara, Sujeewa Senasinghe for Kaduwela, Buddhika Pathirana for Akuressa and Ashoka Abeysinghe for Kurunegala, State-run radio SLBC said, quoting party sources.

The four MPs have been accused of attempting to create divisions in the party by criticising the party leadership. Another four electoral organisers who are not represented in the Parliament are also reportedly under the scanner for being critical of the party leadership.

Political observers say the UNP is losing members because of the reprisals against the loyal party stalwarts for criticising the current leadership under which the party has performed dismally at every election since 2001. (Colombo Page)
