01Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Mahinda Amaraweera said that he appreciated the decision taken by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake to step down.

The Minister, making a statement in Parliament, said he appreciated Karunanayake’s decision to resign from the ministerial portfolio although he was not proven guilty of any crime yet.

Minister Amaraweera said Ravi Karunanayake’s resignation was a very good move.

The General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) said they complained to the Bribery Commission on the Central Bank bond scam and accordingly the President took the bold decision to appoint the presidential commission to probe the issue.

“This is not a victory of the Government or Opposition. Revelations are a people’s victory,” he said.

“There is no escape in the future for wrongdoing. Some people involved in fraud are acting innocent. Some politicians are protecting the fraudsters. People in the country will understand and make decisions in the future,” he said.
