Coalition parties of governing United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) have been asked to submit proposals of each party on the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) and its implementation.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has asked the coalition party leaders to submit the proposals in writing by today (23) to the Presidential Secretariat.

Rajapaksa has directed the party leaders of 14 coalition parties to discuss all the recommendations made by the LLRC with their respective parties and to propose the mode of implementation.

The President has decided on this move due to the diverse views held by coalition partners of the UPFA on the LLRC recommendations and their implementation.

External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris had distributed copies of a summarised version of the LLRC recommendations in point form among the party leaders at a meeting held under the President’s patronage last week.

Once the Presidential Secretariat receives the official positions of the parties, a final report listing out the position of each party would be prepared to be taken up for discussion at the next party leaders’ meeting.
