UPFA Leader of the House in the Eastern Provincial Council Priyantha Pathirana has pledged his support to common candidate Maithripala Sirisena.
Pathirana’s defection brings the total number of defections in the EPC to three, after Rishad Bathiudeen’s ACMC decided to act independently in the council. The UPFA still controls the council with a majority of one, 19 members to the Opposition’s 18. (DB)
