Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils,  Faizer Mustapha said that if the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and its constituent parties split during the upcoming local government election, it would benefit the United National Party (UNP).

Commenting over the preparation of those constituent parties to contest separately for the forthcoming polls, the minister said he would like to challenge those parties to win a single local body by contesting alone.

“Some political parties of the UPFA are fed by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP). The politicians who were fed are trying to come out as a new political force. I would ask the ones who are trying to make new forces whether they want to see the victory of the UNP.”

Mustapha expressed these ideas at a ceremony held Homagama to distribute compost bins for 500 families in the Meegasmulla Grama Seva Division.
