The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will hold its inaugural rally in Anuradhapura, on July 17th, party sources said.

The rally is organized by S.M. Chandrasena, former Chief Minister removed after the election of President Maithripala Sirisena. Chandrasena was succeeded by Peshala Jayarathna.

Chandrasena campaigned vigorously to bring back former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He is the group leader of UPFA team for Anuradhapura district.

The division of the UPFA is clearly seen at this rally as the leading supporter of President Maithripala Sirisena, Minister Duminda Dissanayaka is not an organizer of the rally.

President Sirisena appointed Minister Duminda Dissanayaka as the SLFP organizer for the Kala Wewa electorate.

The Bring Back Mahinda campaign had scheduled this rally to be held on July 09 but postponed it to hold after the nominations are completed.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to address the rally but President Maithripala Sirisena has not confirmed his participation. The rally will be held at Salgado Grounds, Anuradhapura.
