UPFA will win LG elections in the North – Premajayanth

The United People’s Freedom Alliance is confident of winning power in most of the Local Government Elections in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts for which elections will be held on the 23rd of this month.

This was stated by the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance, Minister Susil Premajayanth addressing a Media Conference held at the Information Department yesterday.

The Minister said that similar to the Local Government elections held in other parts of the country, the atmosphere in the Jaffna peninsula is very peaceful and calm and recalled the visit he made to the peninsula with four other government Ministers for launching the campaign last week.

He said that prior to the defeat of terrorism when he went to Jaffna to handover nomination papers for the Local Government elections held in 2008, he had to travel from Ratmalana to Palaly by plane and from Palaly to Jaffna by helicopter and from Jaffna to the Kachcheri in an armoured tank.
