UPFA’s CMC members hold inaugural 2012 meeting

The members of the Colombo Municipal Council of the UPFA and its allies held their inaugural meeting for the New Year at the offices of the Leader of the Opposition located in the Colombo Municipal Council on Friday. Twenty of the 22 members of the opposition group were present.

Leader of the Opposition, Milinda Moragoda, chaired the meeting. In his introductory remarks Moragoda said that discipline, teamwork and commitment to public service are the key ingredients to ensure that the opposition responsibly and successfully discharges its duties to the citizens of Colombo.

Moragoda also mentioned that he would be introducing a code of conduct on the use of the CMC Opposition offices and facilities.

The group unanimously selected Mohammad Maharoof MMC as its Deputy Leader. Other existing office bearers include M.H Mansil MMC, Chief Opposition Whip and Reza Zarook, MMC Media Spokesman.  It was also unanimously decided to propose Tony Ramzy MMC as Opposition nominee for the Finance Committee of the CMC.

The group also proposed that Azad Salley MMC be nominated as candidate for the post of Chairman of the Traffic Committee.

In order to effectively serve the citizens of Colombo, the Group also decided to allocate responsibility at the ward level to each of its members.
