The launch of the 2013 Colombo District Temple Directory will take place on Sunday 1 September at 3:00 p.m. at the Kottawa Sri Dharmavijayaloka Temple. Ven. Dr. Ittapane Dhammalankara acting Mahanayake Thero of the Kotte Sri Samagree Chapter of the Siam Nikaya will be the Chief Guest and Senior Professor Praneeth Abeysundara will deliver the keynote speech on Dhamma Education at the occasion. Several other members of the Maha Sangha from the Colombo Sasanaraksaka Balamandalaya and other distinguished invitees will take part at the event. This is the fourth edition of the directory, which was first compiled in 2003 by the Urumayaka Ulpatha Foundation under the Milinda Moragoda Institute. The directory, which provides the name of the chief incumbent and contact details for each temple in the Colombo District, has become an indispensable resource for the Buddhist Clergy. The cover of the latest edition is taken from an early mural painting from Hindagala temple dating to around the 6th Century, from a 1966 copy by W.M. Fernando. The scene depicts the well-known episode of the two Indian traders, Thapassu and Bhalluka, offering alms to the Lord Buddha. The painting also depicts Shakra Devi, the Supreme God of the heavens, listening to the preaching of the Dhamma. The Temple Directory will be distributed free to all temples in the District. Those interested in obtaining a copy of the directory can send a written request to ‘‘Temple Directory’, Urumayaka Ulpatha Foundation, No 30-8, Siddhartha Lane, Colombo 05.
