US and India welcome efforts to hold peaceful poll

Acting US Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission in Sri Lanka, William Weinstein, told Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa when he met him at the ministry office yesterday that the US Government welcomes the efforts the Sri Lankan Government is taking to ensure a peaceful presidential election. Minister Rajapaksa said that the Government would not allow any violence to take place during or after the election. A special representative from the Indian High Commissioner’s office also met the Minister and expressed his appreciation over the arrangements being made to hold a peaceful election.
