US State Department official Macon Philips arrives in Sri Lanka

The United States State Department Bureau of International Information Programs Coordinator Macon Phillips arrived in Sri Lanka Monday on a one-day official visit.

The State Department said Coordinator Phillips arrived from New Delhi, India. He was visiting New Delhi and Colombo from 19-26 January.

The visit is intended at strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Great to be here! Encouraged by meetings this morning regarding efforts in Sri Lanka to harness technology for better governance,” Phillips said in a twitter message Monday.

Phillips served as a Special Assistant to the President and Director of Digital Strategy at the White House in the Obama Administration.

Previously, he ran the new media program for the Presidential Transition Team and served as the deputy director of the Obama campaign’s new media department.
