Victory processions have been banned for a period of one week from the day the final results of the General Election is declared, Police said yesterday.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that those who violate the election law will be arrested and dealt with under the law. He requested the people to enjoy victory in a peaceful manner.

ASP Gunasekara said congregating in an unlawful manner that disrupts the smooth function of society is also banned.

The spokesman said the Police were vigilant on incidents that would violate election laws and had taken precautionary actions to prevent such incidents before elections and similarly will be equally vigilant to prevent incidents that breach the election law period after the election.
