Vietnam Justice Minister in town

Ha Hung Cuong, the Minister of Justice of Republic of Vietnam along with a delegation of six members arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday or a 4 -day visit, upon an invitation of Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem.  



An official discussion was held between the two Ministers regarding the judicial system of Sri Lanka, Mediation, Arbitration and Debt Conciliation issues.

Cuong briefed Hakeem on the legal system of Vietnam and the latter in turn explained the Sri Lankan legal System to the Vietnamese Minister.

Both Ministers stressed on the importance of the two countries working together in an effort to strengthen already existing ties between Vietnam and Sri Lanka. Both countries have a common cultural heritage and are historically agricultural based economies.   

The Vietnamese Minister expressed an interest in joining the Asian African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) currently chaired by Hakeem, a request which was received positively by Minister Hakeem, who is keen for Vietnam to join AALCO.

Cuong stated that his country recognizes the efforts that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has put in order to finish the 30 year old war.  The Vietnamese Minister also recognized that there are ample opportunities for development and investment in Sri Lanka and pledged the support of his country to Sri Lanka in all such matters.  Both Ministers agreed that as developing Asian countries to work together in the future.

This meeting was also attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Kamalini de Silva and her officers.
