Stamford Lake Publishers has come out with a publication titled ‘Vision & Reality’ described as a Commemorative Volume on the Second Republican Constitution of Sri Lanka (1978).
Around 200 pages, the volume contains articles by authors from across the political spectrum from Ranil Wickremesinghe to Prof. G.L. Peiris to D.E.W. Gunasekera.
The volume also contains an article (perhaps prophetic) by the late Dr. Colvin R. de Silva titled ‘Constitution for Dictatorship’.
The work is an interesting assemblage of different perspectives vis-a-vis J.R. Jayewardene’s work, whose words can be seen in the first article reproduced in the volume.
The articles range from a statement of the rationale, a discussion of its course and an analysis of its effect.
The dissent of the then Opposition also finds its due place.
The volume is compulsory reading and a worthwhile keepsake for all lawyers, political analysts and students.
