We will not allow terrorism to reemerge in our motherland: President

The LTTE favoured Tamil diaspora operating in foreign soil moves like a ghost. Our message is clear. We are not prepared to allow any form of terrorism to emerge in our motherland, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
We successfully defeated the so-called invincible terrorists who were a threat to the country and the people for the past three decades, he added.
President Rajapaksa assured the nation that he would not bow down to the pressure of the international community even if the European Union tries to give a new lease of life to the terrorists headed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam by trying their best to get the LTTE proscription lifted.
The President was addressing the gathering of the ceremony of handing over of 101 houses completed under the 17th stage of the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ housing project for war heroes in the Puttalam district. The event was held at the Mausawewa Rathanapala Navodya Vidyalaya grounds in Anamaduwa, Puttalam on Saturday (1 November).
President Rajapaksa said foreign powers would have thought we would kneel before them with the lifting of the LTTE ban.
We are not going to do that. We have confidence in the armed forces that ensured our safety. We trust them and they would never allow the emergence of any form of terrorism in this country, he said.
“The issues that we had to resolve in the face of the challenge of the LTTE terrorism were what would be the future of the present generation and the future of our children. Will we allow our people to breathe freedom, live in a free environment or live forever in fear? Are we going to give in to the demand for separation? We took the decision to ensure freedom to live by defeating terrorism,” President Rajapaksa said.
The President distributed household equipment and school material among the housing recipients at the occasion. 63 Army, 22 Navy and 16 Air Force personnel were the recipients of the 17th phase of the Api Wenwen Api housing project. Construction work was carried out by the 4th Engineering Services Regiment of the Sri Lanka Army. Along with the housing project, other infrastructure facilities such as play grounds, a gymnasium, market place/shops, community centre and a place of worship, medical centre, a library, communication centre, bank, post office, etc. have been developed in the area.
