The Professional Web Journalists’ Association (PWJA) of Sri Lanka lodged a complaint with Sri Lanka’s Human Rights Commission yesterday charging that the Government had obstructed the entry to eight websites. Lodging the complaint, the union said that the entry to their websites had been obstructed without any warning. The Government last week blocked srilankamirror.com and independent.lk websites and has come under severe criticism for the action. Representatives of Opposition political parties also participated in the event to show support to the journalists. According to the PWJA, it is the duty and the right of the Sri Lankan people as citizens of the Commonwealth of Nations to demand the Head of State of Sri Lanka as the new chair in office of the CW for the next two years honour all democratic pledges adopted unanimously and signed into as a member country.
