Wellness abode for totally dependent war heroes opens

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday ceremoniously declared open the Abimansala the wellness resort for totally dependent disable War Heroes at Anuradhapura.

The resort provides a lifeline during the rest of their lifetime.

The mammoth construction, conceptualized by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who formally as the Commander, Security Forces, Wanni himself went through the traumas of atrocities, perpetrated by terrorists on valiant fellow-soldiers in the battlefield, cost a little over Rs 200 million, and was extensively sponsored by the Army’s theme project, ‘Brave Hearts’ spearheaded by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch, chaired by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.

Secretary to President Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in addition to Ministers, diplomats, dignitaries and a host of invitees graced the opening ceremony.

The ‘Abimansala’, equipped with state of the art modern therapeutic technological aids, much-needed by those disable War Heroes, is to house 52 dependent soldiers in the company of their family members, chosen from the Anuradhapura district as the first of its kind in this region.

The project reached its successful conclusion thanks gestures of world-wide donors, philanthropists and infrastructure and labour provided by Engineer troops and all other soldiers of the Army.
