Wheat flour importers request price hike

Companies importing wheat flour are to forward a request to the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) seeking an increase in the price of a kilo of wheat flour by Rs. 8.



Prima and Serendib Companies are considering the price hike due to losses incurred in the importing of wheat flour following the depreciation of the rupee and increase in transport costs.

The companies are to forward the application shortly and the CAA would respond after studying the market and prices.

A kilo of what flour is currently Rs. 89 in the locals market.

In the event wheat flour prices are increased, the prices of wheat flour based products like bread and other baked items would see an increase in prices. (www.colombopage.com)
