UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa has acknowledged that he has put aside his personal opinions and bowed to the will of the Working Committee on the matter of the common candidate. “Back then Ranasinghe Premadasa helped J.R. Jayewardene to obtain a 5/6 majority in Parliament. It is my dream also to see a green president installed. But that is a personal opinion,” Premadasa said, addressing a political gathering in Kurunegala yesterday. UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and MP Ravi Karunanayake were also present at the meeting. Premadasa said he had put aside his personal views in the hope of seeing a UNP-led Government in place following the presidential election. “This party was never written to me by deed. It is not my personal property. So I will bow my head to the Working Committee’s unanimous decision to field a common candidate,” he said. (DB)
