Government Minister and National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa has accused the US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Michele J. Sison of working with the UNP to destabilise the country. Weerawansa claimed that the US Embassy in Colombo, through some UNP members, have recruited 5,000 youth to carry out a social media campaign against the Government. He said that the youth who have been recruited by the Embassy are being paid for the social media campaign. The Minister said that UNP Parliamentarians have the list of the youth recruited by the US Embassy for the campaign. “When people respond to the posts published by those used in the campaign the public will assume most people are against the Government,” he said. Weerawansa said that the ultimate goal of the US envoy in Colombo is to do what the US did some Middle Eastern countries. He insisted the aim of the US Embassy is not to point out the mistakes of the Government and help it rectify those mistakes, but rather to destabilise the entire country. (Colombo Gazette)
