The Government will conduct a workshop next month for the country’s diplomats to inform them of government policies and overseas political alliances.
The three-day workshop for the heads of mission is scheduled to be held from 7 to 10July and the diplomats are expected to assemble in Colombo on 6 July.
The first session of the workshop will be conducted in Diyatalawa on 7 and 8 and the third day session will be held in Kilinochchi on 9 July. The diplomats are reportedly scheduled to return to Colombo on the 10th. Reportedly, the Government is of the view that the heads of the overseas missions need to be informed of the government’s policies and priorities and accordingly has planned the workshop, which is the first of a kind. Following the adoption of the US sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka at the 19th session of United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva in March, the Sri Lankan Government has decided to close several diplomatic missions in Europe while establishing new missions in Africa, Latin America and Asia.
The government is to focus its diplomatic ties from the West towards African nations following the outcome of the resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva.
