The Colombo High Court yesterday  granted Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, permission to travel abroad.

Considering a petition filed by Yoshitha, the Court granted him permission to leave the country for one month to receive medical treatment.

Yoshitha, who has been released on bail, filed a motion on 20 September, through his attorneys requesting permission to travel to Melbourne for a period of one month to receive treatment for a leg injury.

The Attorney General had objected to the request, however the Judge has emphasised that a person is innocent until proven guilty by the court.

The petitioner has not specified when he will travel abroad although the permission was granted.

Yoshitha informed the Court that the appointment with the medical expert is yet to be made and he would specify the date after the appointment was given.

Colombo High Court ordered the Kaduwela Magistrate to release Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s passport, which is impounded on two surety bail of Rs 1 million each.
