Yoshitha suspended from Navy

The Sri Lanka Navy yesterday announced that Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa had been suspended from the Navy with effect from 28 February.

He was suspended from naval service upon the direction of the Defence Ministry. The ministry said this decision was taken in regard to a request made by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to allow it to hold an independent investigation over allegations leveled against Yoshitha. 

The Navy media spokesman said Yoshitha’s salary and other allowances will halt according to the constitution of the Sri Lanka Navy as amended by Special Gazette Notification 1010/1 of 1998. 

Meanwhile, the Court has rejected Yoshitha’s bail application yesterday. The Colombo High Court will hear the bail application submitted on behalf of Yoshitha on 8 March. 

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested on 30 January under the Country’s money laundering act on  allegations of financial fraud which took place in the Rajapaksa family owned Carlton Sport Network (CSN),and was remanded after being produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate.(CG)
