Book detailing historic labour rights agreement launched

The book tilted “The Tripartite Agreement that secured the employment of 3.5 million persons” (Thispan lakshaya rakiya sureku tripakshika ekagathavaya) written by senior journalist Priyantha Pradeep Ranasinghe was launched under the patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who was Labour Minister when the said agreement was signed.

The book is based on the historic Tripartite Agreement among Trade Unions (TU), employers and the Ministry of Labour that secured employment for 3.5 million employees in the private sector, during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2022).

Ministry of Labour former Secretary Mahinda Madihewa made the keynote speech and a large gathering including State Minister of Labour Vadivel Suresh, State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Sisira Jayakody, Members of Parliament A.H.M. Fowzi and Yadamini Gunawardena, trade union leaders including W.H. Piyadasa, officials of the Ministry of Labour, Joint Apparel Association Forum General Secretary Yohan Lawrence, as well as officials of Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, media institution representatives including senior journalists, SANASA Founder Dr. P.A. Kiriwandeniya, Prof. Nanda Dharmarathna, and scholars participated in this event.

The event was held at the auditorium of the Sri Lanka Book Publishers’ Association, Battaramulla.

The book is published by “Desarasa”.
