LAUGFS has made the Government a laughing stock!

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has made the Government a laughing stock in the eyes of the consumers by granting the green light for a massive increase of Rs. 363 in the price of 12.5 kg LAUGFS gas cylinders. 

As per newspaper reports, Litro gas, which has a monopoly sort of, has decided not to go for an increase in the price, at present, but I can foresee an increase in a couple of weeks or a few months’ time on the basis of wanting an equal playing field with LAUGFS which I am sure CAA will approve without batting an eyelid.

The increase in the price of gas will eventually result in the spiralling cost of living further escalating as food viz meals, bread, rotti, etc. prices will definitely increase.

When the gas price goes up, it will be a double whammy for the consumers or it will be well said if I use a Sinhala idiom ‘Gahen wetuna minihata gona enna wage’ (literally means a man falling from the tree only to be gored by a bull)!
