Last Sunday evening, my grandson Hazim Shiraz (four years) and granddaughter Shaimah Shiraz (two years) residing in the Armour Street flat, earnestly implored me to chaperon them to the children’s park. This is located within the boundaries of this condominium and has been put up for the recreation activities of the children of the Armour Street flat. When we reached the park, they were very much disappointed as entry into the park was not possible as the gate was locked.
I am of the opinion that we should open these parks, which are the lungs of the city, as otherwise being confined to the flats will make the children’s life monotonous as they lose out on the fun and frolic which they enjoy in these parks. Children may become obese and even suffer from (neo) ailments and may become less immune to diseases being ‘confined to barracks’ sort of life.
The long-term after-effects/side-effects of being locked up during the lockdown could be as same or even worse than that of long COVID!
With cricket matches being played, Montessoris/schools being reopened, it is high time the parks are also reopened. Over to the health authorities to kindly consider the above request.
