Main Opposition SJB Parliamentarian Eran Wickramaratne this week urged for an end to attacks on media that revealed the root cause of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks and immediately seek the truth.
“Stop making accusations and counter-accusations against the UK Channel 4 broadcast which aired the names of the people and politicians said to have been involved in the Easter attack, and immediately conduct an independent investigation to find out the truth without covering up the half-truths known to the people of this country,” Wickramaratne told journalists yesterday.
He stressed the need to conduct an independent inquiry on the incident.
The MP quoting media reports said that a former Ambassador Sarath Kongahage has found fault with Opposition and SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and the TNA, saying they threw their weight behind the unsubstantial allegations on Easter Sunday attack was propagated by Channel 4.
The MP urged those concerned to stop the futile attempt to smear the opposition leader with the aim of hiding the truth about the Easter attack. The Government seems to be using various people to mislead the people for its own political gains. The Government should refrain from attacking the media and journalists who unveiled news of the Easter attack.”
“What matters for the country is the Easter Sunday bombing, not the journalists or media organisations that carried the news of it. Sri Lankans of all nationalities as well as foreigners lost their lives in the Easter terror attack. This is not only for a nation or a religion alone, even if the bomb attack is done on the Dalada Maligawa, the same destruction would have happened.
“Therefore, investigate independently to find out who carried out this attack. Who was behind it,” Wickramaratne said.
