Will the 225 save this country now gasping for breath?

A few days before the Aragalaya finally reached the goal, a national daily espoused the cause of millions, who were forced to be deaf, dumb and blind through fear to the gross abuse of power by a family by commenting in its Editorial as follows: “Government of the Rajapaksas … by the Rajapaksas … for the Rajapaksas”.

Yes, the wheel turned slowly but did turn the full circle, bringing the prediction of the architect of our ruin who had the gumption to tell in 2020, “We will be there for the next seventy five years” by grinding plans for dynastic rule never to rise again.

After providing enough funds at the expense of the people, for progeny to live in clover plans were on the drawing board for a mediocre man to run for high office on the trade name which is no longer recognised.

In 2019 and 2020 a nation was misled and is now paying a heavy price. Aragalaya initiated by the younger generation has paved the way for progress welded as ‘one nation’ with strong institutions. Will the 225 men and women act wisely and elect someone who will weld the country now in tatters? He should be someone whom the Aragalaya will bless.
