Women in hospitality

My research on the poor participation of women in hospitality continues to be the most popular research on gender and employment in hospitality. I consider that research and collection of data on the topic are still limited.

As per my findings, the participation of women in hospitality continues to be at a very low 7%. Should the city five-star hotels be taken out of the calculation, the percentage falls to a dismal 5%.

Much social stigma is attached to the employment of women in hospitality. Such may continue, with no clear understanding of how best to deal with the issue. Suggestions of better pay for women and quicker promotions have gone unheeded. Unfounded fears of Security for women, school teachers’ discouragement of women employment in hotels continue to have a negative influence on the recruitment of women.

An urgent attitude change in the employment of women in hospitality is called for.
