Dr. Harsha Silva’s vituperative attempts to attack the Governor

I have observed Dr. Harsha Silva’s vituperative attempts to attack the Governor and the Central Bank on various issues on a regular basis.  However, at the LBO Forum on 5th April 2012, where hundreds of CEOs were present, the Governor replied to Dr. Silva’s allegations comprehensively, and exposed Dr. Silva as the politician that he obviously is.

The Governor reminded those present about the many sweeping allegations and claims that had been made by Dr. Silva in the past, namely, that Sri Lanka’s inflation would be like in Zimbabwe’s; that the GSP + withdrawal would lead to hundreds and thousands of jobs to be lost; that Sri Lanka’s financial system will collapse soon; that Sri Lanka’s public debt will be out of control; and that growth over 8% can never be sustained.   By doing so, the Governor thoroughly exposed Dr. Silva and he had to retreat quietly.  Recently, Dr. Silva has been referring to China as an “economic hit man”, and has also been challenging the per capita income figures as set out in the Central Bank report.  It is appropriate that the Central Bank has responded to these claims as well, and once again exposed Dr. Silva’s political stunts.

I believe that the public are now getting tired of the wild political accusations being made by Dr. Silva as if those are economic statements.  However, the more he goes on like this, the greater his struggling and divided political Party, the UNP, suffers.
